This position is responsible for moving freight, stock, or other materials over short distances from railcars to trucks.
Duties and Responsibilities- Uses safe work procedures that comply with safety policies and regulations.
- Move freight, stock and other materials by hand or by using heavy equipment. Drive vehicles or operate machines or equipment to complete work assignments or to assist workers in a safe and efficient manner while complying with all federal, state, local and company policies.
- Assist in performing or scheduling repairs or preventive maintenance of vehicles or other equipment. Sometimes performing these at elevated platforms with heavy tools.
- Load or unload railcars or trucks by operating heavy equipment and/or hand tools.
- Unloads and inspects incoming materials and verifies receipts.
- Keeps records of materials received.
- Keeps facility yard clean and organized.
- Maintain & clean vehicles, machinery and other equipment and recommends safety improvements.
- Ensure OSHA, DOT, EPA, DNR, MSHA, Federal, State, and Local safety and environmental regulation compliance including attending training.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
As a successful Rail Material Handler, you will have:
- High School diploma or General Education Degree, or equivalent experience.
- Ability to hold and maintain proper licensure and acceptable driving record.
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including overtime, possible nights and some Saturdays
