Job Description

The Oklahoma Water Resources Board is a state agency responsible for overseeing the complex mission of managing, monitoring, planning, and financing the state’s water resources and infrastructure towards reliable future supplies that support strong communities, commerce, and the environment. The agency is seeking a full-time employee for the Surface Water Monitoring Program, specifically a Stream Monitoring Specialist, to join our family of professionals in delivering exceptional services and expertise to Oklahomans.

The position involves performing various activities in our Surface Water Monitoring Program such as water quantity measurements in lakes and streams, GIS mapping, diagnostic activities, and equipment installation/troubleshooting/repair. Moderate to heavy physical exertion will be required, including, but not limited to, carrying field equipment, operating certain sample collection equipment, operating power tools, working on bridges, and wading in all types of water and weather for prolonged periods.

Experience operating real-time stream or lake gauges is preferred but not required.

Activities will be statewide, requiring frequent overnight travel. Examples of duties that will be performed include, but are not limited to:

  • Collects, organizes, and processes water quantity data, specifically stream discharge.
  • Operates field trucks, trailers, boats, and other field equipment.
  • Performs routine maintenance and repairs on real-time gauging equipment.
  • Prepares and conducts initial reviews of data, summary reports of investigations, sampling, chemical analysis, or other related tasks.
  • Maintains and calibrates various types of electronic and non-electronic equipment needed for monitoring activities.
  • Installs new real-time gauges at lakes or streams across the state, which includes the use of power tools.
  • Ensures data is collected and analyzed in a scientifically defensible manner.
  • Works with the Surface Water Monitoring Lead on project planning and implementation.
  • Assists with development and maintenance of stage-dependent rating curves.
