We are looking for a Lead Mechanical HVAC Engineer to work on behalf of Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital. This permanent full‑time role (40 hours per week) offers a competitive salary and benefits package.
General Overview- Conduct maintenance, repairs and inspections of mechanical building services in compliance with relevant standards, legislation and guidance.
- Represent the company in a respectful and professional manner.
- Handle all aspects of regulatory and HTM maintenance for heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on HVAC assets and associated building services, following the PPM programme and ensuring personal competence and training.
- Respond promptly to ad‑hoc breakdown requests as identified by supervisor/manager, or per site contract.
- Assist with installation work for minor upgrades and adaptations.
- Undertake systematic fault‑finding on malfunctioning equipment in a logical and safe manner.
- Work safely, using all types of access equipment, hand and power tools in accordance with health & safety and manufacturers’ guidelines.
- Adhere to personal protective equipment and infection control procedures.
- Maintain proper records, written or electronic, as required.
- Work flexibly with other trades/colleagues and participate in call‑out/standby rota after qualifying period.
- Coordinate with wards and departments to minimise disruption during work.
- Undertake necessary training to acquire additional skills and meet service requirements.
- Perform on‑site risk assessments as instructed by supervisor/manager.
- Collaborate with partners and colleagues to deliver a customer‑focused service.
- Make independent decisions, including when working out of hours.
- Completing all required job cards and paperwork to the required standard.
- Complete work within allotted time frames and additional identified tasks commensurate with the role.
- Technical advice and problem‑solving on water systems and heating issues.
- Experience with other mechanical bias systems.
The Maintenance Engineer performs planned preventative and reactive maintenance tasks across the healthcare estate, ensuring statutory and contractual obligations are met while providing an excellent service to customers.
ComplexityThe engineer works under the guidance of an Estates management team, receiving specialised technical advice and liaising with appropriate levels of management to facilitate specific engineering works.
Qualifications and Required Experience- Completed a recognised mechanical apprenticeship.
- Previous experience within a complex maintenance environment.
- NVQ Level 3 in Maintenance Services or equivalent.
- Experience with AHUs, chilled and portable water systems, A/C units, etc.
- Pipe fitting experience (desirable).
- Experience in PPM, reactive work and supported project works.
- Authorised Person in Ventilation.
