JOB REQUIREMENTS- Minimum Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent - Minimum
Work Experience:
Experience in related field is preferred. - Bilingual Spanish/English is preferred but not required. Ability to read and write English.
- Knowledge of simple insurance rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of available assistance programs available to patients.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to work with figures being able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Meets with all self-pay patients or responsible party within 24 hours of admission or next working day, whichever comes first.
- Give assistance in completing Medicaid, Social Security or County assistance applications.
- Reviews, investigates, and contacts all patients and/or guarantors classified as self-pay.
- Listens compassionately and actively to questions and concerns of the patients and/or family and friends.
- Able to interrelate and communicate with physicians, medical staff, attorneys, and other professionals.
- Provides responses to patient and/or family members with concerns to insurance coverage and payment of deductibles and co-insurance.
- Educates, informs, and assists patients and/or family members as to the follow up requirements and standards of related agencies.
- Assists patient and/or family in establishing a payment plan compliant with the hospital credit policy.
- Establish rapport with physicians and their offices to facilitate financial status prior to services.
- Also works to obtain pre-authorizations for required services.
- Meets with pre-admit patients either in person or over the phone to educate the patient on the estimated patient responsibility.
- Finalize financial arrangements for adoptions prior to delivery.
- Routinely required to access the legal system regarding financial obligations.
- Works directly with Billing Office in collections.
- Assist admission clerks and/or the Switchboard operator in answering patient questions or covering their areas.
- Accepts other duties as assigned by Supervisor, Manager, Division Head or Administration.
