  • Minimum Education:

    High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum

    Work Experience:

    Experience in related field is preferred.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English is preferred but not required. Ability to read and write English.
  • Knowledge of simple insurance rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of available assistance programs available to patients.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to work with figures being able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Meets with all self-pay patients or responsible party within 24 hours of admission or next working day, whichever comes first.
  • Give assistance in completing Medicaid, Social Security or County assistance applications.
  • Reviews, investigates, and contacts all patients and/or guarantors classified as self-pay.
  • Listens compassionately and actively to questions and concerns of the patients and/or family and friends.
  • Able to interrelate and communicate with physicians, medical staff, attorneys, and other professionals.
  • Provides responses to patient and/or family members with concerns to insurance coverage and payment of deductibles and co-insurance.
  • Educates, informs, and assists patients and/or family members as to the follow up requirements and standards of related agencies.
  • Assists patient and/or family in establishing a payment plan compliant with the hospital credit policy.
  • Establish rapport with physicians and their offices to facilitate financial status prior to services.
  • Also works to obtain pre-authorizations for required services.
  • Meets with pre-admit patients either in person or over the phone to educate the patient on the estimated patient responsibility.
  • Finalize financial arrangements for adoptions prior to delivery.
  • Routinely required to access the legal system regarding financial obligations.
  • Works directly with Billing Office in collections.
  • Assist admission clerks and/or the Switchboard operator in answering patient questions or covering their areas.
  • Accepts other duties as assigned by Supervisor, Manager, Division Head or Administration.
