The Observation Unit Registered Nurse provides comprehensive, patient-centered nursing care for patients requiring short-term monitoring, evaluation, and treatment. This position coordinates all aspects of patient care, including assessment, education, care planning, discharge planning, and transitions of care.
Working within the Nursing Professional Practice Model and the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, the RN plans, implements, evaluates, and communicates individualized care while collaborating with physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure safe, efficient, and exceptional patient outcomes.
Observation Unit nurses care for a wide variety of medical conditions, making this an excellent opportunity to expand clinical knowledge while developing strong assessment, prioritization, and critical thinking skills.
What You’ll Do Deliver Exceptional Patient Care- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care for observation patients
- Monitor changing patient conditions and respond promptly using sound clinical judgment
- Administer medications, treatments, and therapies safely and accurately
- Coordinate admissions, observation care, discharge planning, and transitions when inpatient admission is needed
- Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatments, medications, and follow-up care
- Partner with physicians, case managers, therapists, and ancillary departments to coordinate timely, high-quality care
- Serve as a patient advocate while promoting safety, efficiency, and positive patient outcomes
- Participate in interdisciplinary care planning and quality improvement initiatives
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and support to fellow nursing staff as appropriate
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record
- Follow evidence-based nursing practices and hospital policies
