We’re currently searching for an Administrative Assistant to join our New Student and Family Programs team in Blacksburg, VA to help us in our mission of enhancing the student transition experience by fostering inclusive, supportive, and learning‑centered experiences. Here’s What You Need To Know AboutThe Role
- Join the New Student and Family Programs team; a department centered on enhancing the student transition experience.
- Report to the Director of New Student and Family Programs; regular twelve‑month, 100% staff appointment.
- Lead the day‑to‑day front desk operations and be the face of the department; deliver exceptional customer service as the first point of contact and ensure a welcoming environment for all visitors.
- Ensure front desk student employees receive adequate oversight, guidance and training.
- Provide clerical and administrative support: run reports, maintain files, process purchase orders, manage calendars, handle supplies inventory, field phone calls, etc.
- Coordinate several internal systems, including Human Resources, Finance, and Facilities.
- Work independently and collaboratively with key university stakeholders; exceptional interpersonal and communication skills are imperative.
- Opportunity to grow with a developmental plan and advance within the Department and Division.
- Base compensation package between $39,000 – $45,000, with a full comprehensive benefits package (health insurance, paid leave, retirement, tuition assistance, VT discounts, and more).
- Previous professional administrative support experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Proficiency with an electronic mail database system.
- Knowledge of business English and ability to prepare, proofread and edit documents.
- Exceptional organizational skills; able to multi‑task and remain attentive in a moderate to high foot‑traffic environment.
- Excellent communication skills; interact professionally and helpfully.
- Ability to handle/maintain record confidentiality.
- Experience fostering diverse and inclusive environments and building productive relationships with diverse constituents.
- Associate’s degree in Administrative Support Technology, Office Administration, or related field.
- Experience with Outlook, Banner, Hokie Mart.
- Experience working with new college students and families.
- Organizational capacity and skill in managing varied tasks efficiently.
