Summer Camp Program Specialist
- Art Hourly Rate: $19.9403-$20.4792/hr
Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Camp Director, performs responsible work in the planning, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of a variety of challenging, engaging, safe, and age-appropriate activities within the specific program area.
General Duties- Develops a daily lesson plan and implements activities in the specialty program area
- Plans differing age-appropriate activities for campers across a variety of ages and abilities
- Has daily contact with program participants and supervises campers as needed
- Inventories supplies and prepares orders for program supplies within the specialty area
- Maintains accountability of and is responsible for the health and safety of all program participants
- Responsible for enforcing the rules and regulations of the Town of Vernon and Vernon Parks & Recreation Department
- Responsible for completing required program documentation in a timely manner
- Attends staff meetings and program special events as needed
- Conducts daily safety checks of the facility, equipment, and supplies for the program specialty area
- Considered a first responder for medical emergency action procedures
- Maintain a positive work attitude
- Performs related work as required
- 18 years of age or older
- Knowledge of principles and practices of recreational programming as it relates to a summer day camp
- Ability to work with children ages 5-13 and possess an understanding of their social, emotional, and physical development and needs
- Knowledge of and ability to instruct participants in a variety of arts & crafts activities using a variety of mediums
- A minimum of 8 weeks previous experience in an organized day camp setting, or actively pursuing a college degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Education, Art, or a related field
- Possess current First Aid/CPR/AED Certification or able to obtain one prior to start date
- Reliable access to transportation
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, with participants and other Town employees
- Ability to organize data and maintain records
- Able to lift objects in excess of 20 pounds
- Able to concentrate for extended periods of time with interruptions
- Able to walk, run, swim, sit or stand for prolonged periods
- Able to perform moderately difficult skills such as writing and typing
- Able to perform tasks which require hand-eye coordination such as instruction of a skill
- Able to see objects closely and far away, such as waterfront supervision
- Able to hear normal sounds with some background noise such as a call for help
- Able to attend to task for an extended period of time
- Able to remember multiple tasks/assignments given to self or others
- Able to communicate effectively with program participants, parents, and other Town employees
- Potential exposure to blood, body tissues or fluids, seasonal conditions in outside weather, and to loud or unpleasant noises
