Virginia Tech’s Landscape Architecture Program – Visiting Faculty Opportunity

Virginia Tech’s Landscape Architecture Program in the College of Architecture, Arts, and Design invites applications for a full-time academic year (9-month) visiting faculty appointment, to begin in Fall 2026 in Blacksburg, Virginia. The initial term will be one year with the opportunity for renewal.

Position Details

The Landscape Architecture Program seeks applicants with a strong interest in teaching design studios and the ability to teach core technology courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. The position may include teaching theory and methods courses, or seminars in areas of expertise. It offers the opportunity for emerging designers and scholars, or experienced professionals to spend up to three years immersed in the creative community of the Landscape Architecture Program, in the School of Design on the main campus in Blacksburg.

Candidates may apply to be considered for hire at the rank of Visiting Assistant/Associate Professor or Visiting Assistant/Associate Professors of Practice
.

Responsibilities
  • Teach design studios, technical and lecture courses, and topical seminars.
  • Advise and mentor students; engage in community and university service.
  • Establish and/or maintain an active agenda of scholarly pursuits including supported research, and creative and/or professionally related practice disseminated through appropriate venues.
Program Context

The School of Design joins the School of Architecture, the School of Visual Arts, and the School of Performing Arts in the College of Architecture, Arts, and Design (AAD). The School strives to activate each student’s unique abilities while maintaining standards of excellence. The School of Design offers accredited degrees in Landscape Architecture, Interior Design, and Industrial Design, as well as an undergraduate degree in Apparel, Housing, and Resource Management.

The programs are studio-based with opportunities to study abroad and intern with industry partners.

Qualifications and Expectations

Faculty are expected to teach (design studios, technical and lecture courses, topical seminars), advise and mentor students, engage in service, and pursue scholarly activities including research and/or creative/professional practice disseminated through appropriate venues.
