Visiting Instructor – Physics
An invitation for the full‑time, non‑tenure track, one‑year appointment (August 2026 – May 2027) in the Department of Physics at Virginia Tech. The successful applicant will teach and mentor students enrolled in large introductory physics classes, including lecture, demonstration, discussion, and supervising graduate student support activities in calculus‑based physics for physical scientists and engineers, or in general physics primarily for life‑science majors.
Teaching load: 3 – 4 courses per semester.
- Deliver lecture, demonstration, and discussion sessions for introductory physics courses.
- Supervise graduate student support activities in calculus‑based and general physics.
- Mentor students in large introductory physics classes.
- Master’s degree or higher in physics or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated record or potential for teaching introductory physics courses.
- Ability to contribute to a collegial classroom and work environment.
- Exempt:
Not eligible for overtime. - Restricted appointment type.
- Salary:
Commensurate with experience. - Hours per week: 40 hours – exempt position.
- Review date:
June 2, 2026. - Criminal conviction check required.
