Job Description

Harding Avenue Elementary School is seeking an exceptional leader to step into the role of Principal for the  school year.

Primary Responsibilities

The Principal will coordinate administrative oversight and plan all phases of instructional leadership, including educational programming, administration, budgetary planning, discipline, and family engagement.

Duties and Essential Skills
  • Oversee the daily management of the school, maintaining high standards of student conduct and staff professionalism
  • Supervise educators, providing timely, constructive observations and evaluations
  • Provide necessary training and guidance to professional staff based on evaluations
  • Hire all faculty and staff for the school
  • Ensure a productive learning environment through continuous collaboration with teachers, students, and families
  • Encourage the belief that all children can learn and achieve at high levels, setting high expectations for academic excellence
  • Facilitate opportunities to connect with students by being present during arrival and dismissal, attending school functions, and making frequent classroom visits
  • Enforce disciplinary policies and procedures with students
  • Participate in parent meetings and conferences, serving as an intermediary between parents, teachers, and students to address various needs or issues
  • Ensure timely completion of routine paperwork and administrative tasks
  • Lead effective and efficient staff meetings
  • Coordinate staff development and provide instruction if needed
  • Oversee the completion of annual needs assessments and ongoing comprehensive school improvement plans
  • Ensure necessary cleaning, maintenance, and repairs to school property
  • Manage the allocation of supplies and equipment
  • Oversee and implement the school budget, approving new programs and expenditures as appropriate
  • Represent the school in community activities and meetings
  • Foster positive relationships between the school and the community, including parent/teacher organizations and community leaders
  • Act as liaison between the school board office administration and the school, promoting teamwork and communicating needs
  • Collaborate with other principals and educators throughout the division
  • Demonstrate effective instructional leadership skills and a thorough understanding of evidence-based best practices in instructional methodology
  • Ensure that the school meets state and federal accreditation and accountability requirements
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders through outstanding written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Cultivate an inclusive, equitable, and warm learning environment for a diverse student population
  • Demonstrate experience or familiarity with Google Drive for instruction, collaboration, and coursework
  • Identify and effectively solve problems
  • Demonstrate an understanding of applicable local, state, and federal educational laws, regulations, policies, and requirements
  • Model professional behavior by being dependable, punctual, and present
  • Maintain an unquestionable degree of confidentiality
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Educational Leadership or Curriculum and Instruction from an accredited institution
  • Postgraduate Professional license with administration and supervision endorsement required
  • Hold or immediately be eligible for a Virginia license with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision:
    PreK‑12
  • Experience as a building administrator
  • Experience in implementing educational programs
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three years full‑time teaching experience and three years of assistant principal and/or principal experience preferred
  • Experience at the elementary level
Salary

Annually $92,560.00 – $, commensurate with experience.
