Role Description
The Academic Advisor and Program Coordinator is a full-time, on-site role based in Blacksburg, VA. This position provides holistic academic advising to undergraduate and/or graduate students, supporting course selection, degree planning, and progression toward graduation. The role includes student counseling and career guidance, helping learners explore academic pathways and professional opportunities aligned with their goals. Daily responsibilities involve meeting with students, maintaining accurate advising records, coordinating program activities and events, and collaborating with faculty and campus partners to support student success.
The Academic Advisor and Program Coordinator also contributes to orientation programs, outreach initiatives, and continuous improvement of advising practices within the department.
- Demonstrated expertise in Academic Advising and Education to support diverse learners through their academic journey.
- Strong skills in Student Counseling and Career Counseling to assist students with personal, academic, and career-related decisions.
- Effective Communication skills, including the ability to listen actively, provide clear guidance, and engage with students, faculty, and staff.
- Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, student affairs, or a related field; master’s degree preferred.
- Experience working in higher education, student services, or academic advising, ideally within agricultural or related disciplines.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities, coordinate programs and events, and maintain detailed records with accuracy.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and supporting students from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.
- Proficiency with student information systems, scheduling tools, and standard office software.
