Job Description

The Department of Business Information Technology (BIT) in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning August 2027. The BIT major includes three degree options:
Decision Support Systems (DSS), Operations and Supply Chain Management (OSM), and Cybersecurity Management and Analytics (CMA). Candidates should have an appropriate academic background and expertise to teach courses and pursue research in one or more of these degree options. Candidates whose research agenda extends or intersects with the department's core strengths, such as data analytics and decision science, supply chain resilience and optimization, or cybersecurity risk and governance, are especially encouraged to apply.

Successful candidates will also bring a strong commitment to student-centered teaching and mentoring, and will be expected to contribute to departmental, college, and university service.

Qualifications include an earned doctorate in information systems, information technology, operations management, management science, or a closely related field, and evidence of prior teaching experience in one of these areas. A successful candidate is expected to demonstrate a commitment to excellence in research, evidenced by publications in leading journals in their field of expertise, along with strong evidence of teaching ability and a commitment to student mentoring.

In addition, faculty members are expected to engage in departmental, college, and university service activities, including committee work, program development, and support of student organizations. To qualify, candidates must have excellent communication and collaboration skills, an interest in developing and pursuing innovative curricula, and a strong interest in developing a high-quality research agenda.
