Job SummaryOur team in Space & Defense is looking for a Senior Material Scientist to join them. You will report to the Materials Science and Engineering Manager and will have an onsite work schedule in Blacksburg, VA.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in chemistry, engineering, or materials science and 5 years of related experience.
- Hands‑on experience with materials analysis techniques (e.g., FTIR, SEM) and statistical methods (e.g., SPC, Six Sigma Methods).
- Experience in failure analysis of electro‑mechanical components is highly desirable.
- Provide technical assistance and support in materials and processes, including development, selection, optimization, and troubleshooting.
- Expertise in sliding electrical contact technology and tribology.
- Material and process selection.
- Assessing incoming materials and fabricated contacts.
- Developing/improving inspection techniques.
- Optimizing materials and processes.
- Troubleshooting and failure analysis, identifying root causes, and validating corrective actions.
- Provide technical guidance on materials and processes.
- Assist production departments with troubleshooting and process instructions.
- Conduct failure and post‑test analyses.
- Develop new materials and processing techniques.
- Perform laboratory tests and data analysis.
- Interpret and present analysis results.
- Write materials and process specifications.
- Stay updated on state‑of‑the‑art technology in materials and processes.
Frequent interaction with internal and external stakeholders. No direct supervisory responsibilities but provides guidance to associates. Periodic travel required.
