Job Overview
Senior Slip Ring Design Engineer (Moog Inc.) – Blacksburg, VA. Reporting to Manager, Slip Ring Engineering, onsite work schedule:
Monday–Thursday 9‑hour shifts and half‑day Friday.
Moog’s Space & Defense Group provides solutions for satellites, human‑rated space vehicles, launch vehicles, missiles, military ground vehicles, naval vessels, and security and surveillance.
Responsibilities- Establish concepts and requirements for design efforts across mechanical, thermal, and electrical disciplines, focusing on high‑reliability slip‑ring assemblies.
- Interpret customer specifications and act as the primary interface with suppliers and customers for all technical aspects of a project.
- Collaborate with designers, manufacturing engineers, quality engineers, and technical writers.
- Lead the design lifecycle from bids and proposal through detailed design, analysis, production drawings, documentation, and support during production build and test.
- Support internal research and development to expand Moog’s existing technology.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aeronautical engineering.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in design and analysis of precision rotating electromechanical equipment.
- Extensive knowledge of mechanical design, including design for manufacture/assembly of production hardware.
- Proficiency with CAD/CAE tools.
- Experience with finite element analysis (FEA).
- Ability to apply and interpret Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) on engineering prints for production hardware.
- Experience reviewing peers’ designs and documentation for completeness and accuracy.
- Knowledge of machining/manufacturing capabilities and drafting standards.
- Knowledge of electrical principles.
- Mechanical design of systems for rugged environments.
- Electronic assembly integration/packaging, military standards MIL‑SPEC environmental requirements and testing.
- Proficiency with UG, NX, ANSYS.
- Compensation: base salary $90,000.00–$ annually, annual profit sharing, matching 401(k), Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Flexible Spending and Health Savings Accounts.

Schedule:

Salary Range: $90,000.00–$ annually (actual salaries vary based on location, experience, and performance). Other rewards may include annual bonuses, employee stock purchase plan, an open paid time off policy, and region‑specific benefits.
