Our team in Space and Defense – Power & Data is looking for a Power Electronics Engineer to join them in Blacksburg, Virginia, where you will report to the Electrical Engineering Manager and work onsite.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering or similar and 3 years of power electronics design experience.
  • Familiarity with several power converter circuit topologies and ability to analyze them.
  • Experience with control loop theory and analysis.
  • Experience with circuit simulation using PSIM, MATLAB or similar.
  • Desirable:
    Experience with magnetic circuit simulation and analysis using ANSYS Maxwell or similar.
  • Experience with magnetic component selection and evaluation.
  • Experience with thermal design and thermal management systems.
  • Knowledge of electromagnetic interference and susceptibility management.
Responsibilities
  • Be responsible for circuit‑level design, simulation, and troubleshooting to support power supply and power converter applications.
  • Direct a small team on power electronics projects.
  • Read and interpret customer specifications and understand how these documents apply to the power electronics system requirements.
  • Use thermal design skills to select component packages and design appropriate thermal management systems.
  • Perform circuit design while considering electro‑magnetic interference and susceptibility management.
  • Select, analyze, test and document electronic components’ suitability to support new products and existing product lines.
  • Perform magnetics design and evaluation of components such as transformers, inductors and ferrite core materials.
  • Develop prototype testing hardware and methods for power electronics systems and controls.
  • Provide field support and visit customers on an as‑needed basis.
  • Work with CPES at Virginia Tech to stay at the forefront of technological advancements.

Applications are varied, from low‑voltage, low‑power point‑of‑load supplies for embedded electronics boards to high‑power resonant converters for next‑generation non‑contacting power transmission systems. Applications range from 10W to 10kW+. Current project portfolio includes high‑efficiency resonant architectures for wireless power transfer, wide bandgap power converters in several AC/DC, DC/DC and bidirectional applications including generator power converters and gimbal motor drives.

Salary & Compensation

Blacksburg, VA: $85,000.00–$ annually. The base salary range represents the low and high end of the Moog salary range for this position in the given work location. Actual salaries will vary based on location, experience, and performance. The range listed is one component of Moog's total compensation package. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, employee stock purchase plan, an open paid time off policy, and many region‑specific benefits.

This position requires access to U.S. export‑controlled information.
