Job Summary
We are seeking a GIS Technician to join our GIS division in our Blacksburg, Virginia office. The GIS Technician will be responsible for compiling, analyzing, and presenting geospatial data using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software. This role involves creating maps, reports, and visualizations to support various projects, such as environmental planning, infrastructure development, and public safety. Additionally, the GIS Technician will play a crucial part in maintaining the organization’s GIS databases and ensuring the accuracy of geospatial data.
Responsibilities- Compile geographic information from a range of sources, including satellite imagery, aerial photographs, and field surveys.
- Enter and maintain geospatial data in GIS databases.
- Perform spatial analysis to identify patterns and trends in geospatial data.
- Create maps, charts, and other visualizations using GIS software.
- Prepare reports and presentations summarizing geospatial data findings.
- Troubleshoot GIS data and software issues.
- Provide training and support to GIS users.
- Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and visualization techniques.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Competency with web mapping technologies.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Familiarity with programming languages like Python and C#.
- A four-year degree in computer science, geography, or a related field is required.
- A minimum of two years of professional experience working with GIS or mapping technologies is preferred.
