Information Assurance Manager (IAM) – Office of Export and Secure Research Compliance (OESRC) Industrial Security Program
Job OverviewThe Information Assurance Manager oversees the strategic process for protecting information and systems from misuse, unauthorized access, and data breaches within the OESRC Industrial Security Program. The IAM manages risks, ensures compliance with regulations, and leads teams of security professionals to implement security controls and policies that maintain the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of high‑risk data assets.
Primary Duties- Create and maintain policies and procedures to ensure all supported users remain in compliance with applicable safeguarding requirements.
- Coordinate with government agencies to obtain and maintain necessary accreditations.
- Initiate and manage new projects from inception to completion, exercising discretion and best judgment, and maintain these initiatives.
- Provide direct services to users with all aspects of information systems and/or network operations, including setup, continuous monitoring, enhanced security safeguarding, instructional training, disaster recovery, cyber‑incident investigation/reporting, and disposition of materials/data at project completion.
- Support multiple sites and provide comprehensive services, training, system maintenance, inventory control, and analysis of existing and future security technology needs.
- Act as emergency personnel for alarm response, responding timely to emergencies within 60 minutes during evenings and weekends as needed.
- U.S. citizen because of the nature and sensitivity of the position.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Top‑Secret clearance with SCI eligibility and counterintelligence or full‑scope polygraph.
- Advanced degree or training, certifications, and progressively advanced experience in lieu of an advanced degree in information technology, computer science, or related field.
- Demonstrated working experience developing policies and procedures such as detailed documentation and training resources for end users.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and within a team environment.
- Demonstrated excellent organizational and customer service communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience with advanced computer security concepts and procedures, such as firewall management, intrusion prevention systems, encryption, incident response, multi‑domain management.
- Demonstrated working experience with network and computer monitoring, data forensics, and data recovery.
- Experience with system deployment tools, Windows domain management, hardware maintenance, and familiarity with multiple operating systems such as Windows, OS X and Linux.
- Knowledge of NIST Special Publication 800 series, FIPS 199 and 200, applicable DoD publications, NISPOM, DAAG, and ICDs.
- Knowledge of the Risk Management Framework (RMF) process and government system or network accreditation process.
- Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility and counterintelligence or full‑scope polygraph.
- Experience providing computer services support at an accredited institution of higher learning.
- DoD approved 8570 Information Assurance Manager certifications such as Security+, CISSP, etc.
- Highly motivated, self‑starter with ability to multitask.
- Experience using the Enterprise Mission Assurance Support Service (eMASS) system.
- Overtime Status:
Exempt – not eligible for overtime. - Appointment Type:
Regular. - Salary Information:
Starting at $130,000; commensurate with experience. - Hours per week: 40.

Blacksburg, VA – fully onsite; no remote work. - The position is considered emergency personnel and must respond within 60 minutes during evenings and weekends.
