Experience:
As an Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Technician, you'llplay an important role in creating safe, healthy, and comfortable living and dining environments for thousands of Virginia Tech students. Every day, your work helps ensure students have a safeand healthy place to live, study, and build lifelong memories. This is a hands-on position that offers a unique combination of environmental health, industrial hygiene, fire and life safety,pest management, and wildlife management responsibilities.
No twodays are exactly alike. One day you may be performing pest control treatments, the next conducting a mold assessment, inspecting fire safety equipment, or helping investigate an indoor air quality concern. If you enjoy solving problems, working independently, learning newskills, and making a meaningful impact, this position offers an excellent opportunity to build a long-term career in environmentalhealth and safety. We understand that few candidates will have experience in every aspect of this position.

What You'll Do:
As an EHS Technician, you will support environmental health andsafety programs across Virginia Tech residence halls and dining facilities

Expected certifications include:
- Registered Technician Pesticide Applicator
- Commercial Pesticide Applicator
- Virginia Licensed Asbestos Inspector
- Virginia Licensed Lead Inspector
- Virginia Wildlife Control Operator (WCO)
- Certified Nuisance Animal Professional (CNAP)
The general progression is:
Year 1
- Registered Technician Pesticide Applicator Certification
Year 2
- Virginia Asbestos Inspector License
- Virginia Lead Inspector Certification
Year 3
- Commercial Pesticide Applicator Certification
Training timelines may be adjusted based on operational needs and certification availability.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Driver's license
- Ability to successfully complete required training programs andobtain certifications.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff,and coworkers.
- Ability to use computers and complete electronic documentation.
- Ability to work in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments.
- Ability to safely work at heights, in confined spaces, and around environmental hazards while using appropriate personal protective equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in one or more of the following is preferred, but not required:
- Pest management
- Fire and life safety inspections
- Mold assessment or remediation
- Asbestos or lead inspections
- Building maintenance or facilities operations
- Environmental health and safety

Additional Information
The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check as well as a driving check with a safe driving record.
Work schedule:
Monday - Friday 7:30 am - 4:30 pm and as needed toprovide customer service and emergency response.
