Mechanical Foreman About Vertical Mechanical Group (VMG)

As we continue to grow, we are looking for an experienced Mechanical Foreman to lead field crews and support the successful execution of commercial mechanical projects in the Blacksburg, Virginia area
. This role is ideal for a hands‑on field leader who takes pride in quality craftsmanship, safe operations, and keeping projects moving efficiently.

What You'll Do Lead Field Operations
  • Lead and supervise mechanical crews performing commercial HVAC, plumbing, piping, and related installations
  • Assign daily work and communicate production goals and expectations to field employees
  • Plan manpower, materials, tools, and equipment to maintain productivity
  • Coordinate daily activities with the Superintendent, project team, subcontractors, and other trades
  • Review upcoming work and identify potential field conflicts before they impact the schedule
  • Participate in daily coordination meetings and short-term project planning
  • Work alongside the crew when needed to support production and project goals
Drive Safety & Quality
  • Promote and enforce VMG safety policies, OSHA requirements, and project‑specific safety procedures
  • Lead toolbox talks and reinforce safe work practices with field employees
  • Inspect work areas, tools, equipment, and PPE to maintain a safe jobsite
  • Identify and address unsafe conditions, behaviors, and potential hazards
  • Ensure installations meet project drawings, specifications, applicable codes, and VMG quality standards
  • Monitor workmanship and verify completed work before inspections
  • Maintain accountability for company tools, equipment, and materials
Keep Projects Moving
  • Track daily production, employee time, and completed work
  • Monitor material needs and coordinate deliveries to prevent unnecessary delays
  • Support project schedules and communicate potential challenges to the Superintendent
  • Provide accurate information for daily reports and project documentation
  • Coordinate inspections, testing, and quality‑control activities
  • Help minimize material waste, rework, and unnecessary labor costs
  • Communicate field conditions and project needs clearly with jobsite leadership
Lead & Develop the Crew
  • Provide day‑to‑day leadership to mechanics, helpers, and apprentices
  • Train and mentor employees to strengthen their technical skills and field knowledge
  • Set clear expectations for safety, productivity, quality, and professionalism
  • Hold team members accountable while maintaining a respectful and team‑oriented environment
  • Encourage strong communication and collaboration across the jobsite
  • Lead by example through reliability, craftsmanship, and a strong work ethic
What You Bring
  • 5+ years of commercial mechanical construction experience
  • Previous experience leading crews as a Foreman, Lead Mechanic, or similar field leader
  • Strong knowledge of commercial HVAC, plumbing, piping, or mechanical systems
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project documents
  • Experience planning daily work, coordinating manpower, and tracking productivity
  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing and field coordination
  • Working knowledge of OSHA requirements and jobsite safety practices
  • OSHA 30 certification preferred or willingness to obtain
  • Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of an active construction environment
