Stockroom Assistant

Job Description

This Chemistry Department Research Stockroom position requires a highly motivated individual to assist the Stockroom Supervisor with a full range of stockroom functions including receiving, shipping, issuing, ordering, inventory management, and storage of products, supplies, and equipment. Responsibilities also include inspecting and verifying all shipping and receiving documents for discrepancies, and using a computer to enter, track, and inventory all items.

• Previous experience in a stockroom or warehouse environment.
• Knowledge of shipping, receiving, and inventory procedures.
• Experience with making deliveries, loading and unloading products safely.
• Understanding of storage/handling techniques and safety regulations.
• Skill in operating equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
• Experience with inventory reports, spreadsheets, requisitions, invoices, and shipping logs.
• Demonstrated proficiency with computers and calculators.
• Ability to read, write legibly, weigh, measure, and perform routine mathematical calculations.
• Strong communication skills, ability to work quickly and efficiently.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Access, Word, and Excel.
• Education or training in chemistry with knowledge of hazardous chemical properties.
• Working knowledge of Hokie Mart.
