Primary Purpose

The person in this position is responsible for effectively facilitating the ARD process in compliance with federal and state regulations and in accordance with district policy.

Education and Certification
  • Bachelor's degree in related field.
  • Valid Texas Teacher Certificate, or certification/license in a related field such as Speech‑Language Pathology or School Psychology.
  • Certification must meet requirements for becoming and remaining qualified for this position in a manner required by Federal and/or State law.
Special Knowledge and Skills
  • Prepares for ARD meetings (e.g., holds staffings, prepares ARD documentation, schedules meetings).
  • Effectively uses district technology applications when facilitating the ARD process.
  • Effectively maintains ARD documents in a timely manner, which includes locking, distributing and submitting PEIMS.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Monitors and facilitates communication between general and special education staff regarding all elements of the IEP (e.g., goals, accommodations, behavior intervention plans).
  • Collaborates with campus/district staff to ensure compliance with state assessment requirements.
  • Collaborates with the campus Principal and Team Leader/Department Chair to provide support and guidance to the campus special education team, including conducting special education department meetings and disseminating information regarding SBISD's special education policies/procedures.
  • Compiles appropriate reports and documentation as requested by district Special Education Director, Coordinators, Supervisors, and Facilitators.
  • Attends all required training related to job functions.
Major Duties and Responsibilities Student Growth and Development
  • Supports the mission of the school district by promoting the development of appropriate programs and services for students with disabilities.
  • Assists with the needs of students with physical disabilities.
Communication
  • Establishes and maintains open communication by encouraging parent participation in ARD meetings.
  • Uses effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Collaborates with others to provide for learner needs.
  • Consults with parents and other appropriate school personnel concerning each student’s intellectual, academic, social, emotional, and physical development.
Professional Growth and Development
  • Participates in staff development activities to improve job‑related skills and stays informed of and complies with state, district, and school regulations and policies.
  • Compiles, maintains, and files all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
Other Duties
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Position requires regular in‑person interaction with the public.
Physical Demands
  • Frequent and/or prolonged standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing.
  • Moves small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desk, and other classroom equipment.
  • Has the physical capacity to lift, transfer, and otherwise assist students with physical disabilities (e.g., ability to lift 50 lbs).
