Para educator Special Education
Full-time, 184 days, 6.5 hours per day.
Duties- Assists in the instruction of students with disabilities in mainstream, resource‑room, or center‑based settings.
- Manages behavior—redirecting, calming, or removing a disruptive student from the classroom.
- Monitors and records student progress in instructional areas, including academics, daily living skills, dressing, grooming, and social skills.
- Manages physical needs such as toileting, feeding, dressing, lifting, positioning, and transporting students in wheelchairs.
- High‑school diploma or equivalent.
- Personal Care Assistant certification completed within 30 days of the start date.
- Completed 60 semester/90 quarter credits or earned an associate’s degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited institution, or passed the Para Educator or Para Pro exam (documentation required).
- Good communication, interpersonal and record‑keeping skills. Ability to work cooperatively with students and staff, supervise students, take directions, and maintain regular attendance.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds and perform position responsibilities, including toileting, feeding, self‑care procedures, behavior‑management, data maintenance, and working with students who may display aggressive or inappropriate behavior.
- Must work physically in the building.
- $20.85 to $25.50 per hour for DOQ with K‑12 experience.
- $22.00 to $26.65 per hour for AA/AAS degree or 60 semester/90 quarter credits from a regionally accredited institution, DOQ with K‑12 experience.
- $22.85 to $27.50 per hour for BA degree from a regionally accredited institution, DOQ with K‑12 experience.
- Special Ed Paras serving center‑based students or classrooms more than 50% of time receive an additional $0.50 per hour.
- Special Ed Paras at Two Rivers Transition Program receive an additional $1.00 per hour.
- Special Ed Paras at River Trail Learning Center receive an additional $1.50 per hour.
