Our client, a distinguished entity in the energy sector, is actively seeking a Transmission Engineer specialising in Transmission & Distribution to join their team in Minneapolis or Duluth. This permanent role focuses on delivering exemplary designs for both new projects and redevelopments, encompassing underground and overhead high voltage transmission lines. As a Transmission Engineer, you will collaborate closely with project teams throughout the design and construction phases, adapting plans to suit budget constraints, design considerations, and client requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Perform transmission design from the conceptual phase through to design completion
- Modify and review transmission components based on project needs as specified by project managers
- Prepare transmission equipment specifications, data sheets, RFQs, technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations
- Conduct economic conductor selection studies, lightning performance, and grounding calculations
- Compile calculations for necessary electrical clearances and prepare communications on NERC, FERC, and regional standards
- Apply strong knowledge of transmission engineering/design principles, practices, codes, and procedures
- Research and compile project-related data, producing studies, reports, and specifications
- Update drawings using CAD software as needed, based on senior engineer corrections
- Compile information for client presentations and oversee shop drawing reviews and contract administration
- Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations for both public and private clients
- Carry out other duties as assigned
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited program
- Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree in Civil or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program, paired with successful completion of the FE exam
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering can be substituted for one year of experience
- Experience in transmission engineering, with consulting experience strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of standard civil/structural engineering techniques and procedural standards
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work methodically and analytically in quantitative problem-solving
- Proficiency in computer skills, including the Microsoft Office Suite and PLS-CADD
- Strong attention to detail and demonstrated skills in facilitation, team building, collaboration, organisation, and problem-solving
