The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is offering a two‑year Graduate Engineer Training Program that provides structured rotational experience to develop professional engineering skills. Trainees complete three‑ to six‑month rotations in key functional areas such as Construction, Design, Materials, Project Management, Traffic, Water Resources, and specialized Bridge Office assignments.
Key Responsibilities- Participate in assigned rotations, performing engineering tasks in Construction, Design, Materials, Project Management, Traffic, and Water Resources.
- Engage in specialized Bridge Office work including Bridge Design, Construction, Foundations, Pre‑Design, Scoping, Fracture‑Critical Inspections, and Hydraulics.
- Work under mentorship to achieve professional growth and meet program objectives.
- Complete all required rotations and performance reviews.
- Maintain accurate documentation of work hours and project activities.
- Complete two years of professional engineering experience.
- Achieve a passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
- Demonstrate satisfactory performance in all rotations.
- Complete required rotations—Design, Construction, and an out‑state rotation.
- Complete 20 hours of recruitment outreach and/or public engagement service.
- Become a registered Professional Engineer within six years of appointment.
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET‑accredited institution or equivalent as rated by EAC/NCEES.
- GPA higher than 2.5.
- Valid class‑D driver’s license.
- 3.0 GPA or higher.
- Passing score on the FE exam.
- Experience with MnDOT Design, Hydraulic, or Water Resources projects.
- Experience drafting construction plans with Open Road Designer.
- MnDOT Road Construction experience.
- Familiarity with MnDOT construction specifications.
- Pass previous‑employer reference checks.
- Pass criminal history checks and other background investigations.
