What you'll do
  • Develop and implement mid-range mine plans that align with the company's strategic objectives and operational capabilities.
  • Collaborate with geologists, engineers, and production teams to gather relevant data for accurate planning and forecasting.
  • Analyze geological and production data to identify trends, opportunities, and potential challenges in the mining process.
  • Utilize advanced planning software and tools to create detailed mine plans, schedules, and resource allocation strategies.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations to communicate planning outcomes and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Monitor and adjust plans based on real-time production data and changing operational conditions.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations in all planning activities.
  • Participate in cross-functional meetings to align planning efforts with overall business strategies and objectives.
  • Conduct risk assessments to identify potential issues that may impact production and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Train and mentor junior engineers and planning staff on best practices and methodologies in mid-range planning.
  • Engage with external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and community groups, to ensure transparency and compliance in planning processes.
  • Continuously seek opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies in planning and operational workflows.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in mine planning or a similar role within the mining industry.
  • Proficiency in mine planning software such as Surpac, Mine Sched, or similar tools.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex geological and production data.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey planning concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment while also being self-motivated.
  • Familiarity with safety and environmental regulations relevant to the mining industry.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make informed decisions under pressure.
  • Experience with project management principles and methodologies is a plus.
Nice to have
  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Previous experience in underground mining operations.
  • Knowledge of environmental impact assessments and sustainability practices in mining.
  • Certification as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with financial modeling and budgeting processes related to mining operations.
Skills & tools
  • Advanced proficiency in mine planning software (e.g., Surpac, Mine Sched).
  • Strong data analysis and visualization skills using tools such as Excel, Tableau, or similar.
  • Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for spatial analysis.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams and manage multiple priorities effectively.
