As a Laboratory Technician, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world.
- Conduct complex tests as directed with minimal supervision, including chemical formulation preparation and processing; sample measurement and analysis using optical, surface area, and particle size techniques; and component assembly.
- Implement test methods, including sample preparation, testing, data analysis, and reporting results.
- Maintain electronic laboratory notebook records of test conditions, results and observations, and summarize experimental data using Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel or other software applications.
- Participate in team meetings to plan for subsequent experiments.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, place purchase orders to ensure availability of raw materials and supplies, and other duties as assigned.
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
- High school diploma/GED or higher (completed and verified prior to start)
- One (1) combined year of experience in a laboratory environment in a private, public, government, or military environment
- One (1) year of experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Associate’s/Two-Year Technical degree or higher in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or Materials Science (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
- Experience with formulations and/or synthesis of materials
- Experience with laboratory instrument maintenance and upkeep
- Experience working with diverse teams including external partners
- Three (3) years of experience in a research materials laboratory in a private, public, government or military environment
- Work location:
On-site at the 3M Center in Maplewood, MN (at least four days a week) - Travel:

Expected compensation range: $67,593 - $82,614 (includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible). The specific compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on factors such as relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and/or experience.
