Overview
When you join our team as an Assistant Store Manager, you'll take on key store management responsibilities including assisting with supervising day‑to‑day store activities, ensuring overall store performance, managing schedules, and developing operational action plans while identifying training opportunities to develop and grow the team.
Position TypeFull‑Time (38 hours per week). Starting Wage: $24.00 per hour. Year 2 Wage Increase: $25.00 per hour.
Duties and Responsibilities- Assists the direct leader with developing and implementing action plans to improve operating results.
- Establishes and communicates job responsibilities and performance expectations to direct reports.
- Identifies training and development opportunities that will assist direct reports in achieving enhanced performance.
- Understands the overarching company strategy, communicates and models core values to create a sense of teamwork.
- Monitors the competitive environment, informs the direct leader of necessary adjustments to maintain competitive position.
- Provides product feedback to the direct leader, recommending new items or discontinuing items.
- Participates in the interviewing process for store personnel.
- Communicates weekly information, major milestones, developments, and concerns.
- Ensures staff adhere to inventory procedures, product handling guidelines, and cash‑control policies to minimize losses.
- Ensures an appropriate resolution of operational customer concerns in the direct leader’s absence.
- Identifies and rectifies hazards, ensures proper ergonomics, maintains store equipment in working order.
- Maintains store cleanliness standards and proper signage at all times.
- Assists direct leader with maintaining proper stock levels through product ordering.
- Merchandises product neatly to maximize sales.
- Ensures quality and freshness of products and accuracy of product signage.
- Assists direct leader with achieving payroll and loss budget, inventory counts, and training new employees.
- Supervises day‑to‑day operations of the team, escalating issues to appropriate level of support or leadership.
- Ensures direct reports complete assigned responsibilities in a timely and effective manner to provide highest level of customer service.
- Complies with all established company policies and procedures while upholding security and confidentiality of documents and data.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Ability to stock merchandise up to 45 pounds on shelving at various heights.
- Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach, push, pull, lift, carry, and walk about the store.
- Must be able to perform duties with or without reasonable accommodations.
- 21 years of age or older to be employed for this role at ALDI.
- Can work independently and within a team environment.
- Provides and leads others to prompt and courteous customer service.
- Develops rapport, trust, and open communication to enhance growth and job performance of direct reports.
- Interprets and applies company policies and procedures.
- Establishes goals and guides employee performance to ensure quality completion of assignments.
- Evaluates and drives performance of self and others.
- Understand and apply management principles concerning budgeting, personnel costs, and expenses.
- Operates a cash register efficiently and accurately.
- Safely and properly operates equipment, including electric/manual hand jack, floor‑scrubber, and cardboard baler, and performs general cleaning duties to company standards.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Stays organized and multi‑tasked in an efficient manner, following instructions and paying attention to detail.
- Meets any state and local requirements for handling and selling alcoholic beverages.
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in a retail environment.
- Combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge.
- Prior management experience preferred.
