Field Service Technician – Shakopee, MN
Status:
Non-Exempt (hourly), Department:
Field Service.
The Field Service Technician will support our fuel cell products currently installed in electric lift trucks, performing preventative maintenance, resolving breakdowns, and installing and servicing fuel cells at customer sites.
Core Duties and Responsibilities- Maintain and service fuel cells at customer sites.
- Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and evaluations to keep the fleet operational.
- Execute specialized service procedures, including field retrofits and software/hardware upgrades to existing fuel cells.
- Provide on‑call and emergency support as required.
- Purchase tools, equipment, and parts for customer service and support.
- Handle troubleshooting and maintenance of high‑pressure hydrogen storage systems, 480
VAC, flammability, cryogenic liquid, high‑pressure gas, and fueling systems. - Maintain communication with customer personnel and hydrogen suppliers regarding aftermarket support.
- Report breakdown events, parts ordering, and maintenance records.
- Complete administrative duties and documentation, including incident reports, service logs, inventory maintenance, and site/system documentation.
- Enforce safety procedures in the field and at customer sites.
- Travel as required for business needs, driving safely and adhering to all traffic laws.
- Represent Plug Power professionally at all times.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent with technical electrical coursework.
- Three (3) years or more of direct experience in mechanical and electrical troubleshooting (formal training may be considered in lieu of direct experience).
- Valid driver license, clean driving record, and ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly and unassisted.
- Knowledge of lift truck operation and applications (highly preferred).
- General mechanical aptitude required.
- Computer and software skills:
Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook. - Strong interpersonal and communication skills across diverse audiences.
- Ability to work independently and exercise uncompromising dedication to quality.
- Exceptional time‑management and reliability.
- Technician must provide own standard set of tools – specific fuel cell tools will be supplied by Plug Power.
$24.00 - $28.00 per hour.
