Evonik Corporation is seeking a Veramaris Process Engineer (Blair, NE) to develop, analyze, and implement plant and process improvements for the Veramaris technology with a focus on downstream process. This role adds value through process monitoring, root‑cause analysis, statistical process control, data historian tools, and mass balance.
Responsibilities- Generate ideas, perform small projects, and transfer to production with focus on efficiency optimization, debottlenecking, improvements, and cost efficiency.
- Initiate, plan, implement, evaluate, and document lab, pilot, production, and external tests.
- Consider ESHQ aspects at early stage of any improvement activities and ensure guidelines are followed.
- Identify and pursue opportunities for technical, economical, or ESHQ improvements.
- Initiate studies, task forces, or projects to investigate possible improvements or solve problems.
- Maintain close cooperation with the production‑and technical plant team for troubleshooting and feasible concept development.
- Support introduction of new or improved technologies, information flow between production sites, and best practice sharing.
- Serve as project responsible to ensure that small capital projects are conducted adequately.
- Search for local technology providers, evaluate their portfolios, and assess financial and technical concepts.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in industrial biotechnology.
- Experience with large‑scale manufacturing of bioproducts within a biorefinery campus setup, including raw material handling, sterile fermentation, downstream processing, product storage and unloading, utilities, and waste management.
- Experience with batch bioprocess scale‑up from lab to commercial scale.
- Experience introducing new product specifications and/or products in collaboration with cross‑functional teams, including feasibility studies and management of change.
- Experience introducing new raw materials and/or suppliers to an existing process, including feasibility studies and management of change.
- Experience executing energy efficiency and carbon footprint reduction projects, familiarity with energy management systems such as ISO 50001.
- Project responsible for capital cross‑functional collaboration projects.
- Experience utilizing data historians and trending software.
- Experience driving continuous improvement using structured tools based on Lean Six Sigma methodologies, such as Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
- Compliance with ESHQ, OSHA, FAMI‑QS, and ISO regulations while fostering best practices.
- Strong communication skills at different levels within an organization.
