Makerspace Assistant

Do you enjoy technology, creativity, and helping others turn ideas into reality? The City of Blair is seeking a Makerspace Assistant to join our Blair Public Library team! This part-time, non-exempt position offers an exciting opportunity to work with innovative equipment, assist with hands‑on projects, and help patrons of all ages explore new skills. Whether you're passionate about technology, enjoy teaching others, or simply love learning something new, we'd love to hear from you!

• Assist with the daily operations of the Library's makerspace, maintaining a welcoming, creative, and organized environment.

• Teach and guide patrons and staff on the safe and proper use of makerspace equipment and technology.

• Help plan, prepare, and lead engaging workshops, programs, and hands‑on activities.

• Encourage creativity, exploration, and learning among patrons of all ages and skill levels.

• Monitor equipment use and ensure safety procedures and best practices are followed.

• Track equipment usage, supplies, inventory, and participation statistics.

• Identify equipment maintenance needs, report concerns, and recommend improvements.

• Collaborate with Library staff and other City departments on creative projects and initiatives.

• Perform other library-related duties as assigned.

• Work up to 28 hours per week, including regular evening and Saturday shifts.

• Work in a hands‑on, collaborative environment involving technology, tools, and specialized equipment.

• Maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming space for patrons and staff.

• Be comfortable learning new technologies, troubleshooting equipment, and assisting multiple patrons or projects.

• Education: High school diploma or GED required. Must be at least 18 years old.

• Experience: Experience with makerspaces, computers, technology, or CNC equipment highly preferred.

• Technology: Willingness to learn new equipment, software, and technologies and obtain applicable certifications.

• Skills: Strong organization, creativity, problem-solving, time management, and the ability to manage multiple projects.

• Communication: Friendly, patient, and comfortable providing instruction to individuals and groups of all ages and experience levels.

• Attitude: Dependable, enthusiastic, adaptable, and passionate about helping others learn and succeed.

• Help bring creativity, innovation, and hands‑on learning to the Blair community.

• Work with exciting technologies and equipment while continuing to develop your own skills.

• Inspire patrons of all ages to explore new interests, build confidence, and create something new.
