Vehicle Maintenance Technician

Location: Blair, Nebraska
Salary: Up to $33.64 per hour depending on experience
Hours: Mon-Fri 7a-3:30p or 10hr days Mon-Thurs or Tues-Fri 7a-5:30p

Job Description Summary

We are seeking a Vehicle Maintenance Technician to perform maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of company vehicles and related equipment. The role includes preventive maintenance, system diagnostics, and repair of mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems. The technician must adhere to safety protocols and contribute to continuous improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Work and direct personnel in a team-oriented and safety-conscious environment.
  • Test drive vehicles and components using diagnostics such as infrared analyzers, compression gauges, and computerized devices; determine extent of damage or malfunction and repair, replace or adjust brakes.
  • Follow checklists to ensure inspection of belts, hoses, steering, spark plugs, brake and fuel systems, wheel bearings, and other components.
  • Perform routine and scheduled maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrications, and tune‑ups.
  • Repair and service air conditioning, heating, engine‑cooling, and electrical systems; test and adjust repaired systems to meet manufacturer specifications.
  • Tear down, repair, and rebuild faulty assemblies such as power systems, steering systems, and linkages.
  • Assist in formulating preventive maintenance standards and work procedures; provide work order feedback on discrepancies.
  • Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on pumps, conveying systems, piping, heat exchangers, power transmissions, and other power‑driven rotating equipment.
  • Use hand and power tools, precision alignment, rigging, pipe fitting, welding, blueprint reading, and mathematics.
  • Operate forklifts, scissor lifts, basket trucks, and skid loaders as required.
  • Work all shifts, including holidays and weekends, as demanded.
  • Ensure compliance with company and customer regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Meet performance expectations and achieve development planning goals.
  • Maintain personal tools and document tool usage.
  • Perform accurate time accounting and work order completion.
  • Maintain positive customer and employee relations.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or approved GED; AA in Industrial Maintenance preferred but not required.
  • Minimum five years of industrial maintenance and repair experience (preferred).
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, and HVAC troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work in confined spaces, and use hand tools.
Physical Demands

  • Adjust controls quickly and precisely.
  • Manual dexterity to assemble and manipulate objects.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Move continuously and for extended periods.
  • Ascend and descend stairs, ladders, and step stools.
  • Operate hand, power tools, forklifts, and other vehicles safely.
  • Wear a respirator when required.
  • Communicate clearly.
  • Organize tasks and actions according to rules.
Work Environment

The work environment includes exposure to moving mechanical parts, high and precarious places, fumes, airborne particles, toxic chemicals, electrical shock, vibration, extreme heat and cold, wet or humid conditions, and very loud noise.
