The Combination Technician performs work in the construction, maintenance, operation, installation, and servicing of telephone and video lines, instruments, and related equipment. The technician is generally responsible for all aspects of exchange operations and is knowledgeable in test instruments.

Responsibilities

Respond to service orders for installations, troubles, upgrades, removals, or changes to a customer’s residential or business telephone or video service and equipment. This includes key systems and ISDN, Internet, Wireless, FTTH, and DSL services.

Maintain residential and business services, including telephone, video, ISDN, Internet, wireless, DSL, FTTH, and key systems, from customer trouble reports.

Ensure all FCC leak tests are completed on time and file written test results with the Company Engineer/Repair Supervisor.

Install, repair, and maintain customer and business carrier systems, voice frequency repeaters, and related equipment.

Install grounding protection against electrical surges.

Close out all assigned work orders and trouble tickets daily in MACC.

Maintain time sheets, vehicle records, company-issued test equipment, and property.

Use test sets to localize troubles, determine necessary repairs, and make cable-pair changes as needed.

Acquire knowledge of RUS, NEC, and other industry specifications or instructional materials required to accomplish the job.

Submit sketches and measurements and prepare staking sheets when assigned.

Test telephone plant items, report unsatisfactory conditions, and conduct minor central office repairs as needed.

Accept special projects as needed.

Understand and adhere to the Company’s Customer Proprietary Network Information (CPNI) policy while maintaining confidentiality of customer records.

Understand how all departments contribute to the organization and refer customers and employees to the appropriate department to fulfill needs.

Build and maintain a good rapport with customers and co-workers, take ownership of responsibilities, and be accountable for actions.

Advocate for Company programs and special events and participate proactively when opportunities arise.

Perform all other duties and responsibilities assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, & Skills for Success

Knowledge of all aspects of telephony and video installation and repair.

Knowledge of basic electrical and electronic circuitry.

Knowledge of FCC requirements.

Knowledge of and ability to comply with CPNI regulations and procedures.

Ability to embrace change in the workplace and encourage innovative approaches; function effectively as a team player.

Proficient computer skills and the ability to adapt and learn as programs and processes change.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent
Previous work experience (preferred)
