Position OverviewThe Ready-Mix Driver will be responsible for transporting freshly mixed concrete from the plant to job sites safely and efficiently, making normal operating adjustments to equipment and material being hauled.
Key Responsibilities- Comply with all Department of Transportation requirements, including licensing, vehicle inspection, and hours of service.
- Operate the truck in a safe and professional manner on public highways, roads, in the yard area, and at various job sites to deliver materials.
- Inspect the truck at the start of each workday and complete the Driver Check-off Sheet to confirm all systems are functioning properly.
- Maneuver the truck to deliver concrete to the point of delivery; back the truck under the batching plant or hopper to receive concrete.
- Climb the ladder (approximately 10-12 feet) to view the load for consistency and amount, and inspect the drum for cleanliness.
- Adjust the trailer axle pressure depending on the weight of the load.
- Follow written and verbal instructions, including city street maps, directions, and complete necessary paperwork.
- Assemble concrete chute(s) weighing 30-50 pounds each.
- Move hand and foot controls and understand hand signals while operating the truck.
- Keep the truck clean and in working order, including basic maintenance, spraying and cleaning after loads, and preventing concrete buildup in the mixer.
- Meet all eligibility requirements for driving a commercial motor vehicle in interstate commerce as defined by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and the Department of Transportation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- Experience in ready-mixed trucks or related industry experience preferred.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must pass a pre‑employment drug screen and criminal background check.
- Must possess and maintain a Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- Must possess and maintain a valid Medical Card as per DOT requirements.
- Report to the plant dressed appropriately and ready to begin work at the designated start time.
- Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
- Willingness to work independently within a team environment and assist the team with other duties as required.
- Regular and consistent attendance is required; must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to cope well in stressful environments and communicate professionally.
- Demonstrate a hands‑on, collaborative approach; work well in a team and independently.
- Ability to read plant site maps, city street maps, and other GPS‑based equipment information.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and basic math skills required; ability to read and interpret mixer truck gauges.
- Able to utilize a tablet for load status, time keeping, training, and other items.
- Demonstrated ability to take guidance and direction from a supervisor.
- Able to communicate with others by email, telephone, and in person.
- Regularly able to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
- Able to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Able to frequently stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and talk or hear.
- Ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp or manipulate switches and controls.
- Ability to climb stairs, ladders, inclined walkways, and access elevated platforms.
The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, typical seasonal cold and heat temperatures. The employee is exposed to vibration. The noise level is usually moderate.
