Horticulturalist - Greenhouse Operations

Our client is seeking a skilled Horticulturalist to manage and optimize operations within their state-of-the-art greenhouses in the Bloemfontein region. This role focuses on cultivating high-quality produce, ensuring optimal growing conditions, and implementing innovative horticultural techniques. You will be responsible for plant health, nutrient management, and pest control within a controlled environment, with opportunities to contribute to planning and strategy remotely.

• Manage daily operations of greenhouse facilities, including climate control, irrigation, and nutrient delivery systems.
• Oversee the planting, cultivation, and care of various plant species, ensuring optimal growth and yield.
• Implement integrated pest and disease management (IPM) strategies to maintain plant health.
• Monitor environmental conditions within the greenhouse (temperature, humidity, light, CO2) and adjust as needed.
• Conduct regular inspections of crops to identify any issues and implement corrective actions promptly.
• Maintain accurate records of growing conditions, plant health, and production yields.

• Degree or Diploma in Horticulture, Plant Science, Agriculture, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in greenhouse management or professional horticulture.
• Solid understanding of plant physiology, soil science, and pest/disease management.
• Experience with environmental control systems in greenhouses.
• Ability to work both hands-on in the greenhouse and contribute to planning/analysis remotely.
• Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
