Maintenance Worker, Maintenance Technician ​/ Mechanic, Building Maintenance

Our client, a reputable and established business based in Bloemfontein, is seeking a hardworking and dependable Maintenance Worker to join their team. This role is suited to a hands-on individual with strong problem-solving skills who can ensure that facilities, equipment, and general infrastructure are maintained to a high standard, supporting smooth daily operations.

Minimum requirements

• Grade 10 or Matric certificate
• Proven minimum experience of 2 years in general maintenance, including basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical work
• Fluent in English and Afrikaans
• Ability to operate and maintain basic tools and equipment safely
• Good understanding of health and safety regulations in the workplace
• Physically fit and able to perform manual labour
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently
• Reliable, punctual, and detail-oriented
• Willingness to work flexible hours and respond to maintenance emergencies when required
• Valid driver’s license will be advantageous

Skills required

• Proficient in general maintenance tasks, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical repairs
• Ability to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve maintenance issues efficiently
• Familiarity with the safe use of hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
• Basic understanding of health and safety standards and procedures
• Good organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks effectively
• Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
• Physical stamina and dexterity for manual work and lifting heavy equipment
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
• Effective communication skills for reporting issues and coordinating with supervisors or other departments

Duties and responsibilities

• Perform routine inspections and maintenance of machinery, equipment, and facilities to ensure proper functioning
• Conduct basic repairs in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical systems as needed
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency breakdowns
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inventory of tools and equipment
• Ensure that all work complies with health, safety, and environmental regulations
• Assist in the installation and setup of new equipment or machinery
• Monitor the condition of equipment and report potential issues to management
• Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards
• Collaborate with other staff to support operational efficiency and minimize downtime
• Participate in preventative maintenance programs to reduce the likelihood of equipment failure

Monday - Friday: 07h00 - 17h00
