Irrigation Systems Technician

About the Role

Our client is looking for a skilled and reliable Irrigation Systems Technician to join their team in Bloemfontein . This role is essential for ensuring the efficient and effective operation of all irrigation infrastructure on large-scale agricultural properties. You will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of complex irrigation systems, including drip, sprinkler, and center pivot systems. The ideal candidate possesses strong technical skills, a solid understanding of water management, and a commitment to maintaining optimal water usage for crop health and yield.

• Install, maintain, and repair various types of irrigation systems, including pumps, valves, pipelines, and sprinklers.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose problems within irrigation systems, identifying root causes of malfunctions.
• Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on all irrigation equipment.
• Manage water resources efficiently, ensuring optimal water application for crop needs while minimizing waste.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals for irrigation system installation and repair.
• Operate and maintain farm machinery and tools relevant to irrigation system upkeep.
• Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and system performance.

• Proven experience as an Irrigation Technician or in a similar maintenance role within agriculture.
• Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude with experience in plumbing and system repair.
• Familiarity with different irrigation technologies, including drip, sprinkler, and center pivot systems.
• Ability to read and understand technical diagrams and specifications.
• Good physical condition, with the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform manual labor.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to different farm sites as needed.
