Irrigation Systems Technician - Agricultural

Our client, a major agricultural cooperative in the
** Free State**, is seeking a skilled Irrigation Systems Technician to ensure the efficient and effective operation of their extensive irrigation infrastructure. This hands-on role is critical for maintaining water usage efficiency, supporting crop health, and optimizing agricultural productivity across numerous farms. You will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all irrigation systems, including drip, sprinkler, and center pivot systems.

This is an on-site position requiring regular travel to various farm locations around
** Bloemfontein**.

• Install, maintain, and repair a variety of irrigation systems, including pumps, pipes, valves, filters, and controllers.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose problems with irrigation systems, identifying root causes of malfunctions.
• Conduct regular inspections of irrigation equipment to ensure optimal performance and identify potential issues.
• Perform preventative maintenance on all irrigation systems to minimize downtime.
• Operate and maintain specialized irrigation equipment and tools.
• Assist in the design and layout of new irrigation systems based on farm needs and crop requirements.
• Monitor water usage and efficiency, recommending adjustments for conservation.
• Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inventory of parts.
• Ensure all work is performed in compliance with safety regulations and environmental standards.
• Provide technical guidance to farm staff on the proper use and basic maintenance of irrigation systems.

• Technical qualification or certification in Plumbing, Mechanical Fitting, Electrical Engineering, or a related trade.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as an Irrigation Technician or in a similar hands-on maintenance role within the agricultural sector.
• Proven experience with various types of irrigation systems (drip, sprinkler, pivot).
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
• Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, with the ability to troubleshoot complex systems.
• Experience with pump systems, controllers, and water management technologies.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet operational demands.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to maintenance.
• Good physical condition and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel extensively within the
