Northwest Catholic High School
Northwest Catholic High School, a premier Catholic college preparatory day school, seeks an experienced and student-centered School & College Advising Counselor to join our expanding Student Services team. This academic-year position focuses primarily on guiding juniors and seniors through the college search, application, and decision-making process while contributing to the broader academic and personal development of all students.
Position Overview
The School & College Advising Counselor plays a key role in supporting students and families as they navigate the transition from high school to higher education. The counselor will:
* Provide individualized and group advising on college exploration, application strategy, admission requirements, financial aid, and scholarships
* Build strong, supportive relationships with students, families, and college admissions representatives
* Offer structured feedback on applications, essays, and supplemental materials to help students present themselves authentically and effectively
* Prepare students for interviews and other components of the admissions process
* Write comprehensive and thoughtful counselor recommendation letters for all assigned advisees
* Collaborate with the school counseling team on academic advising, course selection, standardized testing (College Board programs), and other departmental initiatives
* Promote the student profile of Northwest Catholic applicants among college admissions officers
* Engage actively in the life of the school community, supporting programs and events that enhance the student experience
With approximately two-thirds of Northwest Catholic seniors applying through Early Action or Early Decision pathways, we seek a counselor who brings expertise in selective college admissions and a proactive, relationship-driven approach, being conscious of the investment families make in a Northwest Catholic education.
Qualifications
Required:
* Bachelor's degree
Preferred:
* 5-7 years of combined experience in college counseling and/or selective college admissions, with a strong emphasis on college counseling
* Demonstrated success guiding students through Early Action and Early Decision processes
* Excellent communication, writing, and interpersonal skills
* Ability to collaborate effectively within a dynamic school environment
* Commitment to the mission and values of Catholic education
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is an empathetic listener, a clear communicator, and a strategic thinker who thrives in a student-focused environment. They bring an enthusiasm for Catholic education, a deep understanding of the evolving college admissions landscape, and a passion for helping young people discern their strengths, aspirations, and next steps towards higher education.
