We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our new Alternate Learning Center, which supports students in grades 6-12 to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Deliver engaging specialized instruction aligned to core content areas as per student IEPs.
- Support students in re‑engaging with school by fostering a structured, respectful, and relationship-centered classroom environment.
- Differentiate instruction to meet a wide range of academic levels, including students who are over‑age/under-credit or returning from disciplinary placements.
- Develop and implement individualized plans aligned to IEP goals and graduation requirements, incorporating flexible pacing and alternative assessment methods.
- Collaborate with school counselors, administrators, and support staff to address academic, attendance, and behavioral barriers to student success.
- Build positive, consistent relationships with students and families to promote accountability, motivation, and persistence.
- Maintain compliance with IDEA regulations to support equitable education for students with disabilities, including implementation of IEPs, documentation, and required accommodations and modifications.
- Implement safety interventions when necessary.
- Contribute to a team-based approach focused on helping students successfully transition back to their home school, graduate, or pursue post‑secondary options.
Education and/or Experience
- Demonstrated ability to remain focused and productive in high‑demand situations.
- Knowledge of strong, validated, evidence‑based intervention programs.
- A minimum of 5 years successful teaching experience preferred but not required.
- Well‑developed oral, written and speaking skills.
- Connecticut certification with the appropriate endorsement for Special Education Teacher 165 or 065 or be immediately eligible for appropriate Connecticut Certification endorsement for Special Education Teacher.
