Early Childhood Teacher (Integrated Preschool)
Bloomfield Public Schools is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Early Childhood Teacher (Integrated Preschool) at Wintonbury Early Childhood Magnet School. The role involves engaging preschool aged students in an integrated early childhood classroom experience. The teacher will create an effective learning environment, utilize appropriate classroom management systems, and apply knowledge of early childhood development across the curriculum. The position requires the use of developmentally appropriate practices and play-based learning to foster student growth.
The teacher will plan individual and group activities to stimulate growth in language, social, and motor skills. They will provide individual and small group instruction designed to meet the individual needs of pupils in communications skills, health habits, physical skills, and development of self-concepts. The teacher will also plan centers based instruction to provoke child curiosity and exploration of various learning concepts.
Support and inclusion of learners with various disabilities in the preschool classroom is required, including shared implementation and monitoring of IEP goals in the classroom and carry over/implementation of student specific instructional programs and/or materials. The teacher will develop and use instructional materials suitable for verbal or visual instruction of pupils with a wide range of mental, physical, and emotional maturates.
They will apply knowledge of general principles of tiered intervention and collaborate with classroom early childhood instructional assistant, special education teacher/case manager, related service providers, and other school staff to support student growth. The teacher will collect data related to overall child development, interventions, and/or IEP progress monitoring. They will attend and participate in PPTs, consult meetings, and other team meetings.
The role focuses on developing the whole child with a focus on social emotional learning as the foundation. The teacher will assist children in the acquisition of all developmental skills including self-help skill development. They will develop in each pupil an awareness of his worth as an individual and their role in his family and community. The teacher will plan and coordinate the work of instructional assistants, parents, and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips.
They will communicate regularly with parents by means of a newsletter, notes, phone calls, and individual parent conferences. The teacher will interpret school program to parents in order to strengthen parental understanding of the individual pupil's needs and the school's role in the pupil's life. They will enrich the educational program through project based learning, science and inquiry, study trips to community resources such as museums, parks, and through classroom visits by resource persons from the school and community.
The teacher will select and requisition instructional aids, supplies, and schedule snacks. They will promote parent participation and involvement in education activities provided for their children.
