Position Summary:

The Academic Interventionists for Literacy or Numeracy will play a key role in the district's vision of closing achievement gaps and ensuring an increase in student mastery of grade level standards. Working collaboratively with their Literacy or Math Coach counterparts and under the Principal's vision and direction, our Academic Interventionists will be responsible for all facets of planning, implementing, assessing and documenting the Tier 3 interventions they provide to students in our MTSS process.

They will themselves have a strong knowledge base of how to support students in mastering content of their respective focus area, as well as an extensive list of research-based strategies, practices and programs that promote student success. Interventionists will spend 100% of their time supporting students. Working within their MTSS Team, Academic Interventionists will be actively engaged in analyzing and responding to student achievement data and connecting their tiered supports back to Tier 1 whenever possible.

Academic Interventionists will serve as a member of the school's crisis team and will be a part of our substitute rotation to ensure our students have highly qualified staff in front of them as often as possible.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This is not an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities associated with this role. Bloomfield Public Schools reserves the right to amend and change responsibilities to meet educational and organizational goals.

  • Work collaboratively with all school staff to improve individual student competencies through a formal MTSS process in literacy or numeracy
  • Serves as a member of the MTSS Team
  • Works collaboratively with staff, within the vision of the Principal, to ensure an academically focused environment that is aligned to the school and district philosophy
  • Provides Tier 3 literacy or math intervention that closes achievement gaps and develops our students' love of learning
  • Will contribute to the district's development of MTSS protocols, procedures and forms
  • Collaborates with Student Support Personnel to ensure students with specialized learning needs, such as those identified in an IEP or 504, are adequately supported
  • Participates in grade level and school wide student-centered meetings (Data Teams, MTSS, Attendance, etc.) that help teachers identify individual and groups of students who would benefit from additional supports
  • Will contribute to the district's development of MTSS protocols, procedures and forms;
    Once established will maintain accurate student records
  • Will contribute to the development of a district wide Instructional Strategies Playbook and Classroom Environment Checklist designed to increase student outcomes and provide consistency within our schools
  • Any other responsibilities deemed appropriate by the principal
Required Certification:
  • Valid Connecticut Teaching Certificate appropriate for the respective grade levels being supported
Other Specialized Qualifications/Competencies or Credentials:
  • A minimum of 7 years successful teaching experience
  • Literacy or Numeracy experience and/or specialized certifications, preferred
  • Strong understanding of culturally responsive pedagogy
  • Willingness to take part in their own professional development, as needed
  • Demonstrates a strong work ethic and adherence to professional responsibilities, including confidentiality of all student information
  • Organizational strengths that allow for multi-tasking based on student needs
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions while maintaining a patient and approachable demeanor
  • Well-developed oral, written and speaking skills
  • Knowledge of evidenced-based strategies related to student mastery
  • Experience analyzing student data (academic and behavioral)
  • PMT/De-Escalation Trained;
    Crisis Team Member
