Job Description - R&D Engineer (Mechanical) | ABB | Bloomfield, CT

Location:

Bloomfield, CT (45 Griffin Road South)

Duration: 6-month contract (potential to extend)

Schedule:

Full-time; 40 hours/week

Pay Rate: $120K - $145K annually (depending on experience)

ABB is seeking an experienced R&D Mechanical Engineer to support the design, development, and manufacturing implementation of new and existing product programs. This role will work cross-functionally in a collaborative, team-first environment focused on innovation, problem-solving, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

+ Design, develop, analyze, and evaluate mechanical systems, components, and products

+ Create 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings using PTC Creo and manage data in Windchill PLM

+ Support engineering change orders (ECOs) and ensure smooth implementation into production

+ Lead or contribute to New Product Introduction (NPI) efforts within a manufacturing environment

+ Develop and maintain technical documentation including BOMs, tolerance analyses, risk assessments, and design reviews

+ Conduct root cause analysis and drive corrective actions for product and design issues

+ Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams

+ Interface with internal stakeholders and customers on technical challenges and solution development

Qualifications

+ Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field)

+ 5-8+ years of experience in mechanical design or R&D engineering

+ Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and prioritize multiple initiatives

+ Experience designing components such as sheet metal enclosures, busbars, or similar mechanical systems

+ Proficient in CAD modeling, drafting, and product lifecycle management tools

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Bloomfield, CT.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $57.00 - $70.00/hr.
