R&D Engineer - Panelboards

Chapter Lead. In this role, you will contribute to ABB’s success with technology, software, product, and system development. You will identify and implement innovative solutions to relevant problems and showcase your expertise by providing ideas and by working both independently and as part of a Research & Development (R&D) team. The work model for the role is Hybrid. This role contributes to the Panel boards chapter, primarily supporting the Develop & Care Power Panels Agile Team in Bloomfield, CT.

• Design, development, and manufacturing implementation of engineering programs that meet business standards and program / product requirements, including functional, cost, reliability, manufacturability, and safety requirements.
• Understand and apply relevant processes, standards, guidelines, and requirements, including architectural and design constraints.
• Execute designs with solid modeling software (PTC Creo / Windchill) to create models, assemblies, detailed drawings, and BOMs for designs which may include plastic, stamped metal, and electrically conductive parts.
• Lead and support R&D projects, from ideation through manufacturing implementation, driving the achievement of targets (quality, time, scope, cost) and managing risks.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of the chapter, including improvement or development of new capabilities, skills, technical knowledge, performance, and culture.

• BS Mechanical Engineering or similar educational background
• 3+ years of experience in R&D or a related field
• Experience in mechanical design (including 3D modeling and 2D drawing creation using PTC Creo or similar tools) and engineering analysis
• Experience in electromechanical design & testing of, and certification standards for, electrical components or equipment (e.g., Panel boards, switchboards, circuit breakers) is preferred
• Experience supporting New Product Introductions (NPI) within a manufacturing environment is preferred
• Ability to communicate in English
• Able to travel domestically & internationally on an occasional basis
• Valid US work authorization and no requirement for sponsorship for an employment visa by ABB in the future
