Location: Bristol and Newington, Connecticut
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 3:00 PM–8:00 PM
Hours: 25 hours per week
Position Summary
Beta Care Services CT is seeking a dependable, compassionate, and responsible Direct Support Professional to provide individualized in-home and community-based support to an adult woman residing in Newington.
The DSP will pick up the individual from her day program at 3:00 PM and provide support until 8:00 PM, Monday through Friday. The ideal candidate must be punctual, engaging, patient, and committed to promoting the individual’s independence, safety, and participation in the community.
Primary Responsibilities
- Pick up the individual from her day program in Bristol at 3:00 PM and transport her safely to her home in Newington or scheduled community activities.
- Transport and accompany her to medical appointments and other scheduled appointments.
- Assist with planning, preparing, and cooking meals.
- Provide support with budgeting, purchases, and money-management skills.
- Assist with recreational and community-based activities.
- Encourage independence, informed choice, self-advocacy, and the development of daily living skills.
- Follow the individual’s Individual Plan, behavioral guidelines, and established support strategies.
- Maintain appropriate supervision and ensure the individual’s health and safety.
- Complete required service documentation accurately and on time.
- Communicate professionally with the individual, guardian, day program, agency management, and other members of the support team.
- Immediately report any health, safety, behavioral, or incident-related concerns in accordance with agency and DDS requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Reliable, registered, and insured vehicle.
- Safe driving record and willingness to transport the individual.
- Ability to pass all required background checks.
- Ability to complete required DDS and agency training.
- Strong communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Dependable and able to consistently work Monday through Friday from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
- Prior experience supporting individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities is preferred.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be caring, patient, dependable, safety-conscious, and comfortable supporting an individual with meal preparation, money management, appointments, transportation, and meaningful recreational activities in the community.
