Summary

Responsible for operations and personnel for locations with up to 130 equivalent truck units. May have Technicians‑In‑Charge, Customer Service Coordinators, technicians, and service employees to support the needs of the assigned location. Must accomplish results and ensure business objectives and labor requirements are met. Ensures customer needs are met while balancing financial, operating, quality, safety, and asset targets against the requirements of the business measured through leadership competencies and business metrics.

Also responsible for ensuring the location is in compliance with all key company processes, SOPs, and standard repair practices. Adheres to all Ryder Maintenance Operations policies and procedures. May prepare incumbents for the Operations Manager II role.

Essential Functions
  • Ops Management:
    Optimize labor at the shop, ensuring optimal mix of straight time, OT, and outside repair.
    Optimize shift patterns to match supply of qualified tech hours versus equipment availability based on customer operating hours.
    Analyze work, vehicle plan and schedule, assign work to technicians, track productivity and optimization, conduct shift and shop meetings, and review and approve RO.
    Oversee execution of the Automated Planning System (APS).

  • Labor Management:
    Manage, train, and develop all assigned personnel.
    Perform performance management of all assigned personnel.
    Execute Technical Training Plan in coordination with Field Training Team, prioritizing based on trends.
    Recruit, hire, onboard, handle payroll, and succession planning.

  • Customer Management:
    Manage customer relationships, issue resolutions, satisfaction, and retention, ensuring vehicle uptime.
    Optimize vehicle maintenance cycle time and meet Delivered in Time Promised objectives based on customer requirements.
    Execute Customer Communication Protocol.
    Collaborate with Sales Team on service requirement section of Customer Care Plan.
    Conduct customer visits and annual reviews as required.
    Maintain customer retention and maintenance CSI through optimal maintenance promise execution.

  • Asset Management:
    Direct reports in maintaining shop appearance and maintenance, sustaining 6S standards.
    Execute asset management initiatives at shop level.
    Recommend shop tooling and equipment.
    Oversee vehicle specifications and in‑service/out‑service process.
    Provide input during business unit asset management review.
    Ensure vehicle specifications in SAM.
    Manage parts inventory, policies, and procedures.
    Coordinate with Rental on PM scheduling, asset utilization, VMI, wash log.

  • Quality Management:
    Conduct quality inspections of PM & repairs, perform in‑process reviews on non‑PM work.
    Lead root‑cause analysis, implement corrective actions locally, communicate issues if necessary.
    Maintain shop floor control to ensure proper root‑cause diagnosis and yield optimization.
    Handle mandatory compliance items at shop level.
    Accountable for all quality metrics within shop.
    Implement quality assurance audit corrective actions and continuous improvement programs.
    Maintain all documentation required to meet state, federal, and customer requirements.
    Ensure a safe workplace and guide safety initiatives.
    Maintain cleanliness and quality of repair for all vehicles.
    Comply with safety, state, and EPA regulations.

  • Financial Management:
    Deliver against net maintenance cost per unit objectives without sacrificing quality, safety, or customer satisfaction.
    Implement cost control measures related to maintenance operations budget and location P&L statement.
    Execute maintenance initiatives to reach specified financial targets.
    Optimize net maintenance cost per unit.
