The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works as part of a healthcare team within a specialty department, assisting with procedures, planning and implementing care interventions, and promoting high‑quality patient care in a professional, efficient, and safe manner. The LPN manages time efficiently to maintain patient flow, provides personal assistance, medical attention, and emotional support to patients, and keeps relevant knowledge up‑to‑date.
Responsibilities- Facilitate office visits: greet patients, escort them into the exam room, prepare patients for exams and procedures, and explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physicians’ instructions.
- Administer medications, including injections and IV therapy, within the scope of licensure.
- Provide basic patient care, including dressing wounds, performing catheterizations, applying compresses, collecting and processing specimens, and cleaning and preparing medical treatment rooms.
- Assemble and use equipment appropriate to the specific medical practice.
- Schedule follow‑up appointments and communicate delays effectively.
- Enter patient information into the computer accurately and in a timely manner; manage the physician’s desktop efficiently.
- Provide clerical support such as making appointments, booking procedures, obtaining pre‑authorizations, and answering telephones.
- Manage medical inventory and supply ordering based on par levels.
- Work under the supervision of the physician or Registered Nurse.
- Graduate of an LPN school program.
- Current licensure as an LPN in the state of Connecticut.
- IV and/or phlebotomy skills preferred.
- Completes competency skill checklist within the first three months.
