Job Description
The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for identifying and correcting building and equipment issues, managing complex assignments, and supervising non-exempt personnel as needed.
PrimaryDuties & Responsibilities
- Identify and correct building/equipment issues.
- Manage highly complex assignments requiring independent action and initiative.
- Determine methods and procedures for new assignments and supervise other non-exempt personnel.
- Perform tasks in electrical, electronics, controls programming, plumbing, mechanical, vacuum systems, and HVAC (HVAC is a plus).
- Minimum 10 years of related experience; advanced knowledge of operational procedures and tools gained through extensive work experience.
- Minimum 7+ years as a Facilities Maintenance Worker with journey-level certification in one or more primary fields (electrical, electronics, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, vacuum systems).
- High School Diploma required plus technical training in building maintenance from a recognized trade school, accredited college, or university. An AA degree may substitute for up to two years of the required experience.
- Read and analyze electrical circuits, wiring ladder diagrams, blueprints, maintenance manuals, and engineering sketches.
- Interpret complex drawings and specifications, apply advanced mathematics, and use precision measuring instruments.
- Perform equipment installations, repairs, calibrations, and service, including replacements of electrical devices and power generation devices; test components and record measurements with handheld tools and meters.
- Use computer programs for research on products, equipment, manuals, and parts; communicate effectively.
Extremely clean and dry working environment. Work may be performed indoors or outdoors, in tight or enclosed spaces, at heights, and in temperature extremes.
Physical Requirements- Respond to 24‑hour emergency calls for assigned work areas during off‑hours.
- Repair, replace, or install plumbing systems and components (water, sewer, drains, valves, faucets, etc.).
- Remove blockages to restroom or kitchen facilities to restore flow and drainage.
- Perform installation, preventative maintenance, inspection, repair, and replacement of various equipment and floor & wall repair.
- Lift or move test equipment and tools up to 40 lbs occasionally.
- Maintain equipment in safe condition, preventing degradation and system failures that could reduce safety, service, and production output.
- Follow safety standards for electrical work (NFPA 70E), LOTO & Arc flash, chemical HAZMAT regulations, and wastewater management.
- Use hand tools, machines, mechanical equipment, pneumatic equipment, electrical equipment, and power tools safely.
- All employees must follow the site EHS procedures and Coherent Corp. Corporate EHS standards.
- Work in various adverse conditions such as tight or enclosed spaces, heights, and temperature extremes, indoors or outdoors, to complete assignments.
- Depending on location, execute and maintain ISO 9000, 9001, 14001 or other applicable standards within the Quality Management System and Environmental Management System.
- Respond to emergencies efficiently and promptly to effect immediate repairs.
- Communicate orally with team members, co‑workers, employees, contractors, and vendors to provide and obtain helpful information.
