Passive Safety Performance Engineer
Location:

Job Description
The Passive Safety Performance Engineer is responsible for leading safety development activities for assigned vehicle programs to ensure all safety functional objectives are achieved. This includes supporting impact script development, identifying design enablers, and executing component and full-vehicle test plans.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead safety development activities including safety target setting and vehicle-level test plan execution, particularly for crash regulatory and third-party ratings.
- Support vehicle integration and validation by owning safety performance, leading attribute teams, supporting safety technical clubs, and executing program requests.
- Investigate vehicle issues, identify root causes, issue documentation for resolution, and lead cross-functional teams when issues span multiple disciplines.
- Manage physical and component testing, including planning, vehicle build, pre-test preparation, and execution from concept through launch, while coordinating with CAE teams for virtual validation.
- Travel occasionally to Chelsea Proving Grounds as required.
- Demonstrate strong technical acumen, communication, and organizational skills.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited or equivalent).
- Minimum 3 years of vehicle development experience and at least 1 year in safety development.
- Experience guiding vehicle design through virtual analysis and physical testing.
- Knowledge of domestic and global vehicle safety regulations and third-party requirements.
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams (Durability, Safety, NVH, Aero) for root cause analysis and issue resolution.
- Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to summarize and present technical results and recommendations clearly.

- Excellent presentation and problem-solving abilities.
- Good understanding of vehicle structures.
- Knowledge of physics and structural engineering fundamentals.
- Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Experience in laboratory testing, design release, CAE, and crash worthiness.
- Familiarity with CATIA/NX/Teamcenter, Hyper Graph, data/film analysis, and advanced simulation tools.
