Highway Project Engineer

Dewberry is seeking a Highway Project Engineer for its Bloomfield, NJ or Mount Laurel, NJ offices. The ideal candidate will hold a BS degree in Civil Engineering, a NJ Professional Engineer license, and 5+ years of experience with NJDOT/NJTA projects. Responsibilities include managing interdisciplinary projects, preparing contract documents, managing sub‑consultants, monitoring budgets and schedules, administering quality control, and reviewing work. The candidate must be capable of writing technical proposals, possess in‑depth highway design experience, and communicate effectively with client management, engineers, and marketing teams.

• Perform all facets of highway engineering, including design of horizontal and vertical geometry, utility relocations, maintenance and protection of traffic schemes, right‑of‑way preparation, drainage coordination, traffic signals, and electrical/lighting systems.
• Prepare contract documents including plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Monitor budgets and schedules.
• Assist in preparation of proposals to provide professional services.

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (required).
• NJ Professional Engineer license (required).
• 5+ years’ experience in highway design.
• Proficiency with NJDOT, NJTA, AASHTO, and MUTCD design standards and procedures.
• Experience in highway design including:
  • Highway/roadway design.
  • Design of horizontal and vertical alignments.
  • Construction staging and design of maintenance and protection of traffic schemes.
  • Preparation of plans, specifications, and engineer estimates.
• Micro Station and Open Roads Designer (required).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficient with MS Office.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

The projected range for this position is $100,000 to $125,000 annually (NJ only). The range may vary slightly based on skills, experience, location, and market conditions.
