OBD and Safety Diagnostic Calibration Engineer
Chelsea, MI



Job Description:

Calibrate diagnostics to ensure accurate failure mode detection while minimizing false pass and false fail results.

• Validate diagnostic software strategies including short to high, short to low, open circuit, rationality, and functionality for LV1 and LV2 systems.

• Raise software change requests to improve diagnostic strategies and reduce warranty issues as needed.

• Support VRT Engineer in resolving Torque Security diagnostic performance issues during vehicle testing.

• Assist VRT Engineer in developing new test procedures for fully electric vehicles.

• Review VRT test results with engineers to ensure correct DTC settings, MIL activation, and MIL calibration.

• Perform DTC validation to ensure MIL and ETC lamp functionality as expected.

• Validate vehicle behavior including correct limp-home mode activation to ensure safe and safe operation.

• Validate calibrations in accordance with DVP&R requirements.

• Review engine scan data with PTSR Reliability Engineers to support root cause analysis and action plans for system reliability, durability, and fleet issues.

• Coordinate response actions for fleet issues.




Key Responsibilities:

Develop and implement diagnostic requirements for powertrain components including engine, transmission, hybrid, and electrified powertrain systems, ensuring compliance with CARB regulations.

• Receive functional and technical safety requirements from the Powertrain SDO team and develop functional safety concepts and architectures in compliance with ISO 26262.

• Support implementation of safety concepts across all powertrain components.

• Support After Sales teams in creation and review of Diagnostic Synthesis Table (DST) and Technical Specification Documents (TSD) for MAKE/BUY components.


Mandatory Skills &

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Controls, Computer Information Engineering, or related discipline.

• Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.

• Experience working with cross-regional teams.

• Valid driver’s license for vehicle testing.

• Experience in powertrain development (conventional or electrified systems).

• Experience developing diagnostic requirements aligned with OBD II regulations.

• Strong understanding of DTC proposal requirements, MIL and warning lamp requirements, and AECD regulations.

• Experience in functional safety development with ISO 26262 knowledge, including HARA, FSC, TSC, and ASIL decomposition.

• Experience in FMEA, FMEDA, and FTA methodologies.

• Knowledge of SAE standards (SAE J1979, SAE J2012, SAE J1968) and ISO 26262.

• Experience with CAN communication protocols and tools such as CANalyzer.

• Experience with calibration tools such as INCA and MDA.

• Experience in HIL validation.

• Strong English communication skills (written, verbal, and reading).
